FAQ's
| How does it work? The whole garden is contained in a polythene bladder and has a layer of sand at the bottom. Over the sand is a weed mat barrier with the soil on top. Water is kept at a constant level in the sand. The water is drawn up into the soil by capillary action (refer to the diagram below). Plant roots grow down toward the moisture and find the best air to water ratio for them and spread out. Excess rain water is quickly drained away though the sand to an overflow pipe. This way the plants always get the right amount of moisture resulting in fast healthy growth. | What shape and size garden can I have? All gardens are made to order. The prices given are for the standard sizes. Our standard gardens are 600mm high ( refer to the Rectangular and Circular gardens pages), You can if needed alter the heights to 450mm, 750mm or 900mm. Larger Circular gardens work best at 2.0m in diameter so everything is accessible from the edge. Rectangular ones are best 1.5m wide and in 1.5m increments for length. The longer they are the cheaper they are for soil area. However any size or shape is possible. You can even link several gardens together providing they are all on the same level. If you are unsure, we would be happy to discuss your particular requirements and the numerous alternatives available. | |
| What do I need to set this up? An area of land which is flat and receives approx 6 hours of sunlight per day. You also need a constant supply of water. A 12mm alkathene feed from the mains, water or retention tank is recommended. Any pressure will work. You will also need to identify a disposal point for the excess rain water. The kitset does not include the sand or soil which can be obtained from your local landscape supplier. | What can I grow in this garden? Almost anything from vegies to flowers and herbs. Go to your local garden centre and buy punnets of small starter plants of whatever you wish to grow. What's on sale is usually in season. There are also many books and web sites dedicated to this subject. Find a local one for tips. | |
| Does the garden need a power supply? No. There is only one moving part in the whole garden which makes it 100% reliable. There are no nozzles to block parts to maintain, no controllers to set or hoses to position. In fact nothing at all, you don't even have to think about it. | How long will it take to recover my set up costs? Depends greatly on how much you spend and what you grow. If, for example you can save $10.00 per week on your food bill, the 2.0m diam garden can pay for itself in the first year. | |
| What if I am unable to set it up myself? We will organize this for you if necessary, or you could hire the services of a local handy man company. The kitset comes with comprehensive step by step instructions. |
